Experience with Devices implanted fixed-rate pacemakers.

چکیده
The fate of 183 implants of Devices TF 2970 fixed-rate pacemakers is analysed. The incidence of clinical complications such as sepsis or skin necrosis, displacement of the electrode, and exit block, and the causes of the 19 deaths are discussed. In 28 of the 183 pacemakers pacing stopped for technical reasons, which are described; the commonest cause of failure was the batteries. The incidence of pacemaker failure has been estimated statistically from a much larger series of 558 implants.

Cardiac rhythm management devices (part I): indications, device selection, and function.
PACEMAKER1 and internal cardioverter–defibrillator (ICD) devices have undergone remarkable evolution since the first implantation of an asynchronous singlechamber pacemaker in 1958 and of an ICD in 1980. Today, more than 500,000 patients in the United States have pacemakers, and up to 115,000 new devices are implanted each year. The number of ICDs implanted each year has steadily increased, rea...
متن کاملPrediction of battery depletion in implanted pacemakers.
By the use of a measuring oscilloscope and the standard electrocardiogram limb leads the degree of battery depletion in an implanted pacemaker can be estimated. A formula based on readings obtained by this means has been used to determine when Devices fixed rate pacemakers should be removed. Laboratory tests show that 90% of their useful life is obtained by this means and it proved possible to ...
متن کاملAnesthetic implications of implanted pacemakers: a case study.
Pacemakers and the underlying pathophysiologies leading to their implantation present challenges to the anesthetist. This case report discusses the anesthetic management of a patient with an implanted pacemaker. A case is presented of an 80-year-old female who was found unresponsive in a parking lot. She was diagnosed with a right parietal subdural hematoma. She underwent an emergency craniotom...
متن کاملPerforming magnetic resonance imaging in patients with implantable pacemakers and defibrillators: results of a European Heart Rhythm Association survey.
The purpose of our survey was to evaluate the experience, current practice and attitudes of performing magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) studies in patients with cardiac implantable electronic devices. Fifty-one centre-members of European Heart Rhythm Association Research network have responded to the survey. According to the obtained data, 55.2% of responding centres do not perform MRI scans in...
متن کاملLong-term transvenous cardiac pacing with chardack-greatbatch (medtronic) pacemaker.
it is now accepted that the rational treatment for chronic atrioventricular block is continuous pacing of the heart with an implanted pacemaker. The logic of this was first put into practice by Elmqvist and Senning (1960) and by Zoll and Linenthal (1960), followed later that same year by Chardack et al. (1960). Since 1962 implantable pacemakers have been Ised in Glasgow (Glass et al., 1963a, 19...
